Robots for Medical Treatment

Robot is a machine that is built from mechanics and electronics which is programmed with automation so that, it can replace the function of human to help the work in all fields. Robots can also minimize the usage human power and increase the work in a short time. Robot has high security system so that it can be used to control all of the tools that have high risk for human. In medical treatment, all of the work must be finished perfectly and carefully, because it’s related with human’s life. As we know, doctors as human are sometimes wrong and not careful. To prevent the human error in medical treatment, humans try to create “things” that can help them to finish the job of a doctor perfectly. After a research for many years, human can create the robots that can help them in medical treatment. There are three function of robot in medical treatment: to be an assistant for the patient, to deliver medicine into patient body , and to operate the patient.

 

My Spoon Robot

 

First, the function of robot in medical treatment is to be an assistant for the patient. As we know not all the patient in the hospital has perfect body, it means that, some of the patients have physical defect problem. If there are 10 patients who got physical defect and the hospital just has 5 nurses, so the other patients don’t get proper treatment from the nurses. So it’s the first purpose to create the robot that can be an assistant for the patient. My Spoon is the robot that is created for physical defect nerve patient. In the tip of the robot, there are two tools that function like a spoon and a fork. Those tools can give food to the patient. But, to make the patient feel comfortable, the solid food be must cut before given it to the patient. My Spoon can be set in 3 modes. The modes are manual, semiautomatic, and automatic. For manual and semiautomatic, the moving of My Spoon is controlled by Operator using Joystick. In the automatic mode, the moving is controlled by machine. Beside My spoon there is Care-O-Bot, that can know the condition of the patient whether the patient needs help or not. For example, when the patient is suddenly unconscious, robot can analyze the condition of the patient, call the patient continuously and if there is no respond, automatically the robot will call the police or ambulance.

Second, the function of robot in the medical treatment is to deliver medicine into patient body. Nano technology is one of the technologies that can manipulate atom to make some products became cheaper and better. Nano Technology can be used for everything, especially in the medical treatment for example create very small robot to fight against virus and to make the flow of blood smoother. Nano Device Robot is the robot that can help doctors to deliver medicine, especially medicine for Cancer. The medicine for cancer is placed into this little Nano Robot, and then sticked into finger of the patient. Then with a remote control the Nano Robot can be controlled to find cell of the cancer by it self. After it has found the cell of cancer, the robot will release bomb, after that the cell of cancer will die. That cell will come out with human feces and the Nano Robot. But not all of Nano Robot is made of computerize machine, sometime Nano Robot are built from polymer molecule and organic. Some scientist from Indonesia has developed the same like Nano Robot, but they call it “Biology Particle Robot”. The function of this robot is to destroy and eat the virus in the human body and this robot also has the ability to reprogram all of human cell that broke when this robot is doing his job.

Lastly, the function of robot in the medical treatment is to operate the patient. Robot is very useful for operating the patient. Operation with the help of the robot is known as Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy (LRP). Singapore General Hospital (SGH), is the first hospital in the Asia that uses technology of LRP. Some journalists from Indonesia met Dr. Tan Yet Hong, the consultant of Urology Department from SGH, to get more explanation about Robot that is named is Da Vinci. Da vinci can be used to operate the heart and the prostate gland. Da vinci robot is designed to act as surgeon’s eyes and hand in the surgical operation. In the practice, the doctor operates 4 hands of robot from a surgeon console. Hands of the robot have sensitive and accurate movement, so the procedure to operate prostate gland becomes easier. The other advantages are the hand of robot does not tremble like human hand. Beside that Da Vinci can be used to operate the heart. Same as prostate gland operation, the patient of heath operation will recover faster, because the injuries that is caused by Da Vinci operate is smaller. SGH charges S$ 26.000, prostate gland operation by using Da Vinci, and S$ 33.000 for a heart operation.

In conclusion, robot has three functions in the medical treatment. There are three functions of robot in the medical treatment: to be an assistant for the patient, to deliver medicine into patient body, and to operate the patient. In the future if human can produce large number of robots, especially for medical treatment, t robot is predicted take an important role in medical treatment because robot can replace the role of doctor and nurse.
