Will LED Replace Neon in The Future?
If you observed things around you, lamps with LED (Light Emitting Diode) has started to compete with the conventional light bulb or neon. This kind of lamp has some better benefits compared to the latter - it lasts longer and needs lesser electricity consumption.
Usually, LED is used on gadgets such as cellular phones, PDA or Computers. The light produced by LED is not bright enough to light a room, that’s why this technology is considered not good enough for public consumption. However, this notion will change soon. Thanks to the scientists at University of Glasgow, Scotland, LED now is able to produce brighter light.
It can be achieved by creating microscopic holes on the LED surface so that the lamp can shine brighter without needing any extra energy. The making of the holes were applying the nano-imprint litography that up until now the project is still being developed together with The Institute of Photonics.
Philips has started to launche some LED lamps and you probably have already seen some of them on the market. Some of the models are in a form of light bulbs and come with various colors such as milky white and other colors. The electricity needed for this lamp is around 4-10 watt only - compare that to that of a neon that would need at least 12-20 watt.

LED lamps are better than neon, that’s sure, but for the moment they are more expensive than neon. In the near futur they will be a good alternative, because of their low power consumption, you can choose the color, and they are faster to light up.
yep, LED will be dominated in the future
Your post is very valuable, thanks
