A dentist is facing a 18 until 54 years in prison after being charged of stealing body parts from cadavers. Michael Mastromarino, 44, admitted that he stole those body parts, worth $4,6 million, from several funeral homes in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Those body parts, such as bones, skin and tendons, then sold to doctors who then transplanted them to patients. A victim whose body parts was stolen was Alistair Cooke, a British Journalist and the host of PBS television show “Masterpiece Theatre” and BBC’s “Letter from America”. His relatives has urged the court to put him in jail for the rest of his life.
A recipient of Mastromarino’s “goods”, Stephanie Berardini, 36, who underwent periodontal surgery throughout her mouth using tissue and bone implants, said “The disgust factor is enormous”.
Mastromarino said that he was sorry for what he has done although most of the family of the victims thought that he didn’t mean it.
